The Forreston Cardinals will venture away from home to square off against the Dunlap Eagles at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Dunlap will be up against a hot Forreston team: the squad just extended their winning streak to nine. The Cardinals never let Milledgeville get on the board and left with an 8-0 win on Friday.
Brendan Greenfield made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, earning two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Carson Akins was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last match, Dunlap made sure to put some runs up on the board against Canton on Thursday. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Little Giants. Considering the Eagles' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Dunlap also got a great performance from Landon Gray as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave Gray a new career-high.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ryder Rennette, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Jaxson Tresenriter was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Dunlap has been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 17 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Forreston, they pushed their record up to 24-4 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Forreston hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. However, it's not like Dunlap struggles in that department as they've averaged .324. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
