Baseball Recap: Sweet Springs Comes Up Short

In Thursday's Canine Competition, Sweet Springs didn't have enough. They came up short against the New Franklin Bulldogs on Thursday, falling 14-2. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Greyhounds couldn't push the score so high this time.

Drayton Hampton made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jason Gonzalez, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Sweet Springs and nudges their season record down to 12-15. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for New Franklin, the victory snapped their losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 8-10 record.

Looking ahead, Sweet Springs will head out on the road to take on Leeton at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. New Franklin has already played their next contest (against Pilot Grove), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
