Softball Recap: Damascus Takes Down Ranked Walter Johnson

Damascus faced Walter Johnson in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Hornets put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 11-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won nine games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Aislinn Sell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kailyn Sheahin was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Josie Hoffacker, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

The win was the sixth in a row for Damascus, bringing their record up to 10-2-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Walter Johnson, with the loss, they broke their seven-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-2.

Looking ahead, Damascus will be playing in front of their home fans against Northwest at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Walter Johnson, they will square off against Clarksburg on Thursday.
