Basketball Recap: Immaculata-La Salle Snaps Eight-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Immaculata-La Salle entered their match against Marathon on Thursday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Immaculata-La Salle Royal Lions fell just short of the Marathon Dolphins by a score of 50-48. The Royal Lions were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Dolphins earlier this season, when they won 48-45.

Immaculata-La Salle lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ainoa Haliwa, who went 5 for 11 on her way to 15 points and six steals. Haliwa is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexandra Gonzalez Casar, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Immaculata-La Salle smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Marathon to victory, but perhaps none more so than Elena Eubank, who posted 16 points in addition to seven assists and six boards. Another player making a difference was Marti'Yana Kilbourn, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Immaculata-La Salle's loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-2. As for Marathon, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.

Immaculata-La Salle didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 66-21 defeat against Ferguson on the 10th. As for Marathon, they will face off against True North Classical Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. True North Classical Academy's defense has only allowed 28.1 points per game this season, so Marathon's offense will have their work cut out for them.
