Basketball Recap: Box Elder's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Box Elder). They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 70-67 victory over the Northridge Knights on Friday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Bees as it put an end to their 14-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Box Elder's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mayson Jeppsen led the charge by putting up 11 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists. Jeppsen has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ryan Jenson, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards.

Jeppsen wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Box Elder was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. Box Elder is 1-9 when they've passed the ball that well.

Box Elder's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-12. As for Northridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.

Box Elder will head out to challenge Bonneville at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Box Elder is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.9 points per game this season. As for Northridge, they will host Viewmont at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Northridge knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Viewmont likes a good challenge.
