Softball Recap: Evansville North Comes Up Short

Evansville North dropped their record down to 8-6 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Heritage Hills Patriots by a score of 4-3. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Huskies of the 5-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Evansville North got a good showing from Adleigh Whitler, who struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Whitler has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Gracelyn Ashley made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and one double. That double was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Charleigh Hankins, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

As for Heritage Hills, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games.

On Heritage Hills' side, they saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma Fisher, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Mayci Litherland was another, getting four hits from her four at bats.

Looking ahead, Evansville North will head out to square off against Evansville Memorial at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. As for Heritage Hills, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Southridge at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
