Basketball Recap: Ball Falls Despite Big Games from Braeon Arceneaux and Kalyn Toussaint

If Ball was feeling good fresh off their 76-31 takedown of Texas City last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Ball Tornadoes came up short against the Santa Fe Indians on Friday, falling 71-47. The Tornadoes lost against the Indians in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 58-55 score last time.

Despite the loss, Ball had strong showings from Kalyn Toussaint, who went 9 for 22 on her way to 24 points and five rebounds, and Braeon Arceneaux, who posted 19 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. The matchup was Arceneaux's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elle Buergler, who put up three points.

Even though they lost, Ball smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 15 consecutive contests.

Santa Fe was led to victory by Hannah Doerre and Rowan Green. Doerre dropped a double-double on 22 points and 18 boards, while Green went 9 of 15 on her way to 24 points and six boards. The dominant performance gave Green a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayven Martinez, who had 11 points.

Ball moved to 9-9 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Santa Fe, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-11.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Angleton the next time they take the court. Ball will head out to face Angleton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Santa Fe will host them at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th.
