Softball Recap: Seneca Find Success

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Seneca ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the La Farge Wildcats, sneaking past 9-8. The win continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won five in a row.

Brigid Hall spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Addison Davidson and Karsyn Thoma did most of the damage at the plate: Davidson went 4-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Thoma went 4-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three runs gave Davidson a new career-high. Raya Wallin was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Seneca kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.4.

Seneca now has a winning record of 11-10. As for La Farge, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-12.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Seneca will square off against Hillsboro at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.91 runs per game on average), something the Indians will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for La Farge, they will be playing at home against Wonewoc-Center at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
