Basketball Recap: Mesa Verde Takes a Loss

On Friday, the Mesa Verde Mavericks were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 59-58 to the Vacaville Christian Falcons. That's two games in a row now that the Mavericks have lost by just one point.

Mesa Verde's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Elijah Colon, who went 10 for 17 on his way to 25 points and five steals, and Mathew Garcia, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. Garcia is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Dickinson, who posted 11 points and three steals.

It was another big night for Dylan Eddings, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 boards for Vacaville Christian. Eddings is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. William Mccarthy was another key player, putting up nine points and six rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Mesa Verde and nudges their season record down to 3-13. As for Vacaville Christian, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-7.

Mesa Verde has already played their next contest, a 48-42 loss against Rio Vista on the 14th. As for Vacaville Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 63-29 victory against San Juan on the 14th.
