Softball Game Preview: Abingdon/Avon Tornadoes vs. Princeville Princes

The Abingdon/Avon Tornadoes are taking a road trip to face off against the Princeville Princes at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Abingdon/Avon has three straight wins, Princeville has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Wednesday, Abingdon/Avon sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over Farmington.

Emma Gunther was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 14 matchups.

Meanwhile, Princeville came up short against Abingdon/Avon on Tuesday and fell 6-2.

Princeville saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tori Catton, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Abingdon/Avon pushed their record up to 12-16 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Princeville, their loss dropped their record down to 8-22.

Abingdon/Avon beat Princeville 6-2 in their previous meeting on Tuesday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tornadoes since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
