Baseball Game Preview: Mt. Diablo Red Devils vs. Richmond Oilers

The Mt. Diablo Red Devils will head out to take on the Richmond Oilers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mt. Diablo has given up an average of 11.8 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Monday, Mt. Diablo needed a bit of extra time to put away KIPP King. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lions, sneaking past 14-13. The Red Devils' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Luis Chub Caal made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Chub Caal was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Anthony Scallin, who scored three runs and stole five bases while going 3-for-5. Those hits marked the first that he got this season. Another player making a difference was Eduardo Gutierrez, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Mt. Diablo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Richmond was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 12th straight defeat. They came up short against Hercules, falling 15-3.

The win made it two in a row for Mt. Diablo and bumps their season record up to 3-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Richmond, their loss dropped their record down to 2-12.

Mt. Diablo skirted past Richmond 13-11 in their previous matchup back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
