Baseball Game Preview: Miamisburg Vikings vs. Fairmont Firebirds

Miamisburg and Fairmont are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Vikings will challenge the Firebirds at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Fairmont took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Miamisburg, who comes in off a win.

Miamisburg's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They walked away with a 5-0 win over Middletown. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Vikings.

Miamisburg got a great performance from Tristan Korolchuk as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Korolchuk a new career-high.

At the plate, Miamisburg saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bryce Vaughn, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Braden Trent was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Fairmont suffered their closest defeat since April 23rd on Friday. They fell just short of Ryle by a score of 3-1. The Firebirds have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Fairmont's loss dropped their record down to 13-11. As for Miamisburg, their victory bumped their record up to 8-10.

Miamisburg skirted past Fairmont 1-0 when the teams last played on Wednesday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
