Baseball Recap: Cristo Rey Jesuit Comes Up Short

Cristo Rey Jesuit had lost three straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 4-11 to make it four. They lost 25-0 to the Westmont Sentinels. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Sentinels this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-0 two weeks ago.

As for Westmont, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-9-1 record this season. Considering they have won 18 contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Westmont's part, Briggs Templeton and Nathaniel Ollier made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Templeton pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Ollier tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Templeton posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. At bat, Templeton got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs and four RBI, while Ollier earned two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Westmont got a massive performance out of Rocco Damato, who went 2-for-3 with four runs, five RBI, and one double. Ricky Yenkin was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

Coming up, Cristo Rey Jesuit will be playing at home against Intrinsic Charter School Downtown Campus at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Westmont, they will face off against Marian Central Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
