New Fairfield is 0-10 against Masuk since April of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. The Rebels will head out to take on the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. New Fairfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, New Fairfield didn't have quite enough to beat Pomperaug and fell 9-8.
Gianna Garofola made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Sophia Callahan was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Masuk). They put the hurt on Stratford with a sharp 31-5 win on Wednesday. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Red Devils recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Ciena Perpetuo was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Grace Ely, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs.
Masuk always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .722. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
Masuk's win was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for New Fairfield, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. New Fairfield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Masuk struggles in that department as they've been averaging 13 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
New Fairfield might still be hurting after the 7-1 defeat they got from Masuk in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Rebels avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
