Football Recap: Layton Comes Up Short Despite Gavin Hurst's Big Defensive Game

Layton had lost three straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped down to 2-6 to make it four. They fell just short of the West Field Longhorns by a score of 27-25. While the Lancers had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored the Longhorns 19-6.

When it comes to explaining why Layton lost, don't look at Koen Doane. Despite the final result, he threw for 173 yards and two TDs.

Eilertson is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last five games he's played. West Field's leading receiver Gavin Ortegon was Eilertson's top target yet again, picking up 116 receiving yards and one score.

Looking ahead, Layton will be playing at home against Davis at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for West Field, they will head out to take on Fremont at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. That game will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Eilertson and Manase Tuatagaloa.
