Baseball Recap: Pottsboro Victorious

Pottsboro extended their postseason success on Thursday against Mount Vernon. They skirted past the Tigers 4-2. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Cardinals as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Matthew McCullough was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cayden Humphreys, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Landon Goodman, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Pottsboro's victory bumped their record up to 16-7-1. As for Mount Vernon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 20-8.

Pottsboro will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Tigers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
