Basketball Recap: Animas Comes Up Short

Animas was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 20th straight loss dating back to last season. They were dealt a 79-23 defeat at the hands of the Ruidoso Warriors. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Warriors apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2019.

Animas got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of Tallon Marble and Levi Kellogg, who each put up six points. Marble also led the team in assists with two. Lucas Mulganon held things down on the boards with seven rebounds.

Ruidoso's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mason Fikany, who went 8 of 15 on his way to 18 points. Another player making a difference was Augustine Saiz, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds.

Animas' defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Ruidoso, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Animas didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 67-36 loss against Estancia on the 20th. Ruidoso has also already played their next contest, a 55-33 win against Eunice on the 20th.
