Blacksburg took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They never let Greenville Tech Charter get on the board and left with a 17-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won seven in a row.
Matty Cody was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, five stolen bases, and three runs. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kayson Pittman, who scored two runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.
Blacksburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .792. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Greenville H made easy work of Anderson C on Saturday and carried off an 11-4 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Hurricanes.
Greenville H also got a great performance from Adam Greene as he tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Greenville H is 3-1 when Greene allowsone or fewer earned runs, but 2-3 otherwise.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Drake Martin, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5. He is becoming a predictor of Greenville H's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-4 when he doesn't). Killian Budlong was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-4.
Blacksburg's victory bumped their record up to 2-6. As for Greenville H, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
