Basketball Recap: O'connor's Win on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Four

O'Connor had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.3 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They walked away with a 64-57 victory over the Liberty Lions. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 72-45 last Wednesday.

Leading O'Connor to victory were Ava Schooler and Audrey Bhesania. Schooler went 11 for 16 on her way to 26 points, while Bhesania went 6 of 11 en route to 20 points. Bhesania's evening made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Bella Elsholz was another key player, putting up two points and six rebounds.

Despite the loss, Liberty saw an underclassman step up: freshman Francesca Sofia posted 23 points in addition to five assists and three steals. That was a full 40.4% of Liberty's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Koker, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten boards.

O'Connor has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a massive bump to their 10-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.9 points per game. As for Liberty, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. O'Connor will head out to challenge Pinnacle at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Pinnacle will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something O'Connor surely won't give up without a fight. As for Liberty, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Liberty Lions duke it out with the Boulder Creek Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on January 28th.
