Basketball Recap: Sidney Montgomery's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Liberty over Chesnee

Liberty lost against Chesnee back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Liberty Red Devils fell 57-44 to the Chesnee Eagles. The match marked the Red Devils' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Liberty's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sidney Montgomery, who posted 11 points. Montgomery is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last four games he's played. Zach Welborn was another key player, going 5-for-9 en route to 11 points and eight boards.

Even though they lost, Liberty smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chesnee only pulled down four offensive boards.

Elijah Brown was his usual excellent self, going 8-for-15 on his way to 23 points and five assists for Chesnee. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Reese, who scored 12 points.

Liberty has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 13 of their last 16 games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 10-15 record this season. As for Chesnee, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-6.

Looking ahead, Liberty will head out to face off against Fairfield Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Fairfield Central will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something Liberty surely won't give up without a fight. As for Chesnee, they will challenge Pelion at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Chesnee's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven contests.
