Basketball Recap: Melanie Hermes and Piper Warren Secure Win for Elbert

Elbert waltzed into their game on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They took down the Deer Trail Eagles 44-25. The Bulldogs pushed the score to 35-14 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles cut but never quite recovered from.

Leading Elbert to victory were Piper Warren and Melanie Hermes. Warren dropped a double-double with 13 points and 20 boards, while Hermes posted 16 points and three steals. Warren is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down 15 or more in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jadyn Schmidt, who had three points along with eight boards and six assists.

Elbert smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. They are 7-2 when they hit their own glass that hard.

When it comes to explaining why Deer Trail lost, don't look at Megan Donovan. Despite the final result, she earned five points in addition to eight blocks and six rebounds. Fatuma Hussein was another key player, putting up six points and five boards.

Elbert's record now sits at 9-12. As for Deer Trail, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-15.

Elbert wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 50-26 defeat against Genoa-Hugo/Karval on the 27th. As for Deer Trail, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 51-6 win against Manzanola on the 27th.
