Football Recap: Hillsboro Hiltoppers vs. Southwestern Piasa Birds
Hillsboro was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 12th straight defeat dating back to last season. They and the Southwestern Piasa Birds were almost perfectly matched up, but the Hillsboro Hiltoppers suffered a 41-40 loss. One positive for the Hiltoppers, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.
Despite the loss, Hillsboro still got an impressive performance from Amony Anderson, who rushed for 185 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.3 yards per carry. Anderson really tore up the turf during one magnificent 75-yard run. Cody Boerckel was another key player, rushing for 12 yards and two touchdowns.
Even though they lost, Hillsboro was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 282 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2023.
Greyson Brewer had an outrageously good game for Southwestern as he rushed for 202 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.6 yards per carry, and also caught a touchdown. The dominant performance gave Brewer a new career-high in rushing yards. Another player making a difference was Blake Rimbey, who threw for 134 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.
Hillsboro's record is now 0-9. As for Southwestern, the win snapped their losing streak at seven games and leaves them with a 2-7 record.
