Baseball Game Preview: Juniata Valley Hornets vs. Bellwood-Antis Blue Devils

Juniata Valley and Bellwood-Antis are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2018, but likely not for long. The Hornets will welcome the Blue Devils at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Juniata Valley will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Juniata Valley came out on top against Williamsburg on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run first inning. The Hornets were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Blue Pirates. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Hornets have posted against the Blue Pirates since April 25, 2019.

Kyler Spurlin made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Juniata Valley is 6-1 when Spurlin allows one or fewer earned runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Spurlin was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

In other batting news, Logan Harpster and Ethan Scalia did most of the damage at the plate: Harpster went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Scalia got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Harpster has posted since back in March.

Meanwhile, Bellwood-Antis came up short against Bedford on Friday and fell 7-4. The Blue Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Cam Swogger made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Juniata Valley pushed their record up to 9-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Bellwood-Antis, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.
