Basketball Recap: Northeast Snaps Nine-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Northeast came into Saturday's contest having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 38-35 victory over the Warren Central Dragons on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since January 9th.

Northeast's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Qimara Summers led the charge by putting up 16 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Summers is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Carmen Abel, who posted ten points.

Northeast's victory ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-8. As for Warren Central, their defeat was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. It'll be Battle of the Birds when the Northeast Eagles duke it out with the Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on January 6, 2025. Northeast has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Warren Central, they will square off against South Warren at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
