Baseball Recap: Sandalwood Drops Season-High Score on Parker

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sandalwood). Everything went their way against the Parker Braves on Friday as the Sandalwood Saints made off with a 19-2 victory. With that win, the Saints brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.

Bryce Foster looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Preston Cox and Bane Barker did most of the damage at the plate: Cox went 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Barker went 4-for-5 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. The dominant performance gave Barker a new career-high in doubles. Another player making a difference was Andrew Detlefsen, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Sandalwood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 9.8.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Sandalwood, bringing their record for this year to 7-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Parker, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sandalwood will welcome Mandarin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday. As for Parker, they will host Concord Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
