Preview: Alvin Yellowjackets vs. Alief Hastings Bears
Alvin is on a 20-game streak of home losses (dating back to last season), Alief Hastings a six-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The Alvin Yellowjackets will take on the Alief Hastings Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Friday, things could have been worse for Alvin, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 59-40 loss to Alief Elsik. Alvin has not had much luck with Alief Elsik recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Alief Hastings suffered their biggest defeat since November 25, 2023 on Friday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 57-34 walloping at the hands of Strake Jesuit. While losing is never fun, Alief Hastings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1015th, while Strake Jesuit is ranked 409th).
Alvin has not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-16 record this season. As for Alief Hastings, their loss dropped their record down to 3-15.
Alvin suffered a grim 52-32 defeat to Alief Hastings in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Alvin, Maurice Rennie (who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
