Basketball Recap: Durham Academy Takes a Loss

Durham Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 73-72 heartbreaker at the hands of the Ravenscroft Ravens. If the Cavaliers were looking for revenge after losing 69-54 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

When it comes to explaining why Durham Academy lost, don't look at Joshua Dorsette II. Despite the final result, he went 5 for 9 on his way to 18 points and three steals. That's the most points Dorsette II has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of JJ Wilcox, who went 5 of 8 en route to 12 points and seven rebounds.

Durham Academy's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 13-8. As for Ravenscroft, they pushed their record up to 15-10 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Durham Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Cary Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Durham Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight matchups -- so hopefully Cary Academy likes a good challenge. As for Ravenscroft, they and Grace Christian will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Grace Christian will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Ravenscroft surely won't give up without a fight.
