Basketball Recap: Gaynor vs. Medgar Evers College Prep
Gaynor's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They pulled ahead with a 44-43 photo finish over Medgar Evers College Prep. The 44-point effort marked Gaynor's lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Despite the loss, Medgar Evers College Prep still got an impressive performance from Tyree Keitt, who went 11 for 21 on his way to 28 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. With that strong performance, Keitt is now averaging an impressive 16 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Messiah Forde, who posted nine points and six steals.
With the victory, Gaynor broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-3. As for Medgar Evers College Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
Gaynor will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Westinghouse at 5:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025. Westinghouse knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Gaynor likes a good challenge. Medgar Evers College Prep and Prospect Heights will round out the year against one another at at 11:30 a.m. on Monday.
