Basketball Recap: Cristo Rey Comes Up Short

If Cristo Rey was riding high fresh off their 66-26 takedown of Mohican Young Star Academy last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cristo Rey Cougar took a blow against the Horizon Science Academy Hawks on Friday, falling 63-14. The Cougar have struggled against the Hawks recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the defeat, Cristo Rey saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Henley Francois posted 14 points. Those 14 points gave Francois a new career-high.

Horizon Science Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Michael Shamie, who scored ten points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Jameer Turner, who earned ten points.

Cristo Rey's loss dropped their record down to 1-19. As for Horizon Science Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season.

Cristo Rey has already played their next matchup, a 91-25 defeat against River Valley on the 22nd. As for Horizon Science Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 75-64 loss against New Hope Christian Academy on the 15th.
