Baseball Recap: Garden City Comes Up Short

Liberal hit Garden City with a six-run sixth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Buffaloes fell just short of the Redskins by a score of 9-8. The Buffaloes were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Redskins earlier this season, when they won 7-3.

Jonathan Almanza and Culden Plankenhorn stepped up to the plate in a big way. Almanza went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Plankenhorn got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Gio Benitez also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Garden City dropped their record down to 4-8 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Liberal, their win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Garden City will head out to challenge Dodge City at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Liberal, they will venture away from home to face off against Cimarron at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The last four games the Bluejays have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
