Baseball Game Preview: Pine Crest Panthers vs. Calvary Christian Academy Eagles

Pine Crest hasn't had much luck against Calvary Christian Academy recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Pine Crest Panthers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Calvary Christian Academy Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Pine Crest will be strutting in after a win while Calvary Christian Academy will be coming in after a loss.

Pine Crest had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Monarch on Monday. Everything went Pine Crest's way against Monarch as Pine Crest made off with a 14-2 victory. The Panthers not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since February 12th.

Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Calvary Christian Academy's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell 7-4 to St. John Paul II Academy.

Calvary Christian Academy got a good showing from Owen Martinez, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Martinez a new career-low in walks (one).

On the hitting side, Carlos Lugo made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Luca Erazo, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Pine Crest's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-2-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Calvary Christian Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4-3.
