Basketball Recap: Oceanside's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Monday

On Monday, Oceanside faced Lawrence in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Oceanside Mariners took a 56-37 bruising from the Lawrence Bulldogs. The Mariners' defeat signaled the end of their nine-game winning streak.

Renee Ripley and Aubrianna Hoose certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Ripley dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 boards, while Hoose posted 18 points and six rebounds. The game was Hoose's tenth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Stackpole, who had six points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Oceanside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive matches.

Oceanside's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-3. As for Lawrence, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 12-0.

Oceanside will face off against Morse at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Oceanside has won four straight at home, while Morse won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change. As for Lawrence, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 68-54 win against Camden Hills on the 22nd.
