Softball Recap: Udall Takes a Loss

Udall extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping their season record down to 4-5 in the process. They took a 13-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of the South Sumner [Caldwell/South Haven] Outlaws. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Outlaws this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-4 on Thursday.

Liberty Mason made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.

As for South Sumner [Caldwell/South Haven], their win bumped their record up to 12-4. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

On South Sumner [Caldwell/South Haven]'s side, Maddy Ferguson and Ava Newell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Ferguson pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Newell struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Ferguson went 3-for-5 with one RBI, while Newell went 4-for-5 with four runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

In other batting news, South Sumner [Caldwell/South Haven] let Ella Risley and Ella Perry run wild. Risley went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Perry went 4-for-5 with three RBI and one triple. That's the most RBI Perry has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Rahlee Colwell, who went 3-for-5 with three runs and one double.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Udall beat South Sumner [Caldwell/South Haven] by a score of 18-11 later that day.
