Preview: Indian Rocks Christian Eagles vs. St. Petersburg Green Devils
The Indian Rocks Christian Eagles will be playing at home against the St. Petersburg Green Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Indian Rocks Christian has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Last Friday, everything came up roses for Indian Rocks Christian at home against Universal Academy as the team secured a 66-18 win. Given Indian Rocks Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 280th, while Universal Academy is ranked 572nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Indian Rocks Christian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Malia Stevens out in front who scored 31 points. The game was Stevens' third in a row with at least ten points. Kayleigh Atkinson was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.
Even though St. Petersburg has not done well against Boca Ciega recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. St. Petersburg snuck past Boca Ciega with a 55-50 victory. The victory was just what St. Petersburg needed coming off of a 75-31 defeat in their prior game.
St. Petersburg's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Quay Curry, who scored 23 points. Another player making a difference was Kevina Le, who scored 14 points.
Indian Rocks Christian's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for St. Petersburg, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
