Softball Recap: Horn Sets Scoring Season-High Against Lancaster

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Horn). They put the hurt on the Lancaster Tigers with a sharp 21-8 win on Tuesday. With that victory, the Jaguars brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

Irella Bautista made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That stolen base was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Zoie Armstrong was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 18 matches. Another player making a difference was Jasmine Uribe, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Horn hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in six consecutive games.

Horn's record is now 10-7-1. As for Lancaster, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 15-2.

Horn and Lancaster should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Horn (ranked 275th) will meet Mesquite (ranked 585th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Lancaster will challenge Cedar Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Friday up 520 places (408 vs. 928).
