Softball Game Preview: Marshall Lions vs. Dieterich Movin Maroons

Marshall has gone a perfect 5-0 against Dieterich recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Marshall Lions will hit the road for the first time this season to take on the Dieterich Movin Maroons at 4:30 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Marshall is headed out to face Dieterich after opening their season at home and giving their fans just what they were looking for. Marshall put the hurt on Oakwood with a sharp 9-3 victory on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Comets: they've now won five in a row.

Haley McGuire spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, McKenzie Davis was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Lynn Welborn, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Dieterich had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Cumberland an 11-0 shutout on Monday.

Marshall skirted past Dieterich 5-4 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Marshall since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
