Softball Recap: Westside Wolves vs. Heights Bulldogs
Westside had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 2-13 to make it four. They lost 16-1 to the Heights Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 20-0 back in March.
Westside saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cheney Mobley, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
As for Heights, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games.
On Heights' side, Sara Paniagua made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Paniagua has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Flora Moreno, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Helen Maddux, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
Westside does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Heights, they will challenge Fort Bend Hightower at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
