Softball Recap: Mt. Vernon Makes It Four in a Row on the Road

Mt. Vernon had won four straight on the road, but on Friday they bumped their record up to 20-5 to make it five. They blew past the Lamar Tigers 19-4. Considering the Mountaineers have won 15 contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Emily Schubert, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Jocelyn Liss was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Mt. Vernon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive matchups.

As for Lamar, their loss dropped their record down to 11-7. They have struggled against Mt. Vernon recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.

On Lamar's side, Kelby Wolf made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Maylee Rawlings, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one double.

Mt. Vernon didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 4-0 defeat against Skyline on the 25th. As for Lamar, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 12-1 win against Butler on the 25th.
