Soccer Game Preview: Mt. Carmel vs. Escondido

The Mt. Carmel Sundevils will head out on the road to challenge the Escondido Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mt. Carmel's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for three straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Mt. Carmel is headed into Thursday's following a draw, the team's first since December 20. Neither they nor Fallbrook could gain the upper hand on Tuesday so the two teams had to settle for a 0-0 draw.

Meanwhile, Escondido waltzed into their match on Tuesday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 3-1. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 70th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 633rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Escondido hit Ramona with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from David Ortiz, Gilbert Pina, and Enrique Rodriguez.

Mt. Carmel's draw gives them a new season record of 1-7-3. As for Escondido, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-1-1 record this season.
