Basketball Recap: Vail Christian Comes Up Short

Vail Christian lost against Caprock Academy back in January of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Vail Christian Saints took a 37-24 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Caprock Academy Eagles. The Saints have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Vail Christian lost, don't look at Lia Nowicki. Despite the final result, she posted six points. Nowicki continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

Leading Caprock Academy to victory were Taylor Phillips and Ali Yarnell. Phillips had nine points in addition to eight boards and six steals, while Yarnell put up seven points and eight rebounds. Phillips is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 15 games she's played.

Vail Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Caprock Academy, their victory ended an eight-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-16.

Coming up, Vail Christian is taking a road trip to face off against Lotus School For Excellence at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Caprock Academy, they will venture away from home to challenge Lake County at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
