Recap: Hughes Lions vs. Wayne County Wildcats

The Wayne County Wildcats typically have all the answers at home, but on Friday the Hughes Lions proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 67-57 victory over the Wildcats. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.

When it comes to explaining why Wayne County lost, one person who can't be blamed is Cayman Camfield. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 27 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 47.4% of Wayne County's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Justice Bell, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds.

Hughes is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. As for Wayne County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hughes won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Mt. Pleasant at 7:00 p.m. on January 27th. Hopefully Mt. Pleasant focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Friday. As for Wayne County, they will be playing at home against Huntland at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Huntland will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings (they are ranked 306th, while Wayne County is ranked 147th).
