Baseball Recap: St. Charles East Comes Up Short

St. Charles East fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Batavia on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 11-10. The Fighting Saints were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 6-2.

Joey Arend and Ryan McGrew stepped up to the plate in a big way. Arend went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while McGrew went 2-for-5 with three RBI and one double. Arend is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Dylan McCabe, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

St. Charles East has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-12 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Batavia, their record now sits at 9-16-1.

While St. Charles East had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
