Volleyball Recap: Lakeside Lutheran Comes Up Short

Lakeside Lutheran dropped down to 4-4 on Saturday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the McFarland Spartans by a score of 2-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Warriors of the 3-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2022.

Naomi Guenterberg paced Lakeside Lutheran's offense, picking up ten kills. Guenterberg got some help from Grace Hoppenrath and her eight assists. Guenterberg was also solid from the service line: she led the team with four aces.

As for McFarland, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-4 record this season. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since October 19, 2024.

McFarland found their leader in sophomore Talia Riemen, who had nine digs and two aces.

Lakeside Lutheran and McFarland will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Warriors will square off against rival Lake Mills at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, McFarland is set to take on their familiar foe Mount Horeb at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
