Softball Recap: Madelia Blackhawks vs. Cleveland Clippers
Madelia had lost five straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 5-10 to make it six. They lost 17-2 to the Cleveland Clippers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Clippers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-3 back in April.
As for Cleveland, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-4. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
For Cleveland's part, Delaney Thompson made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit (and only one walk). Thompson has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Kaitlyn Flowers and Ava Hahn did most of the damage at the plate: Flowers went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Hahn went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those four RBI gave Flowers a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cecelia Gair, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Coming up, Madelia is taking a road trip to challenge Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther/Truman at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cleveland, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
