Softball Recap: Whiting Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

While Whiting didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against the River Forest Ingots on Tuesday as they made off with a 22-4 victory. The game was the first time the Oilers have beaten the Ingots on their field since April 1, 2019.

Lilianna Bell made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up four earned runs off only two hits. Bell was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Whiting got a massive performance out of Arianna Vianello, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Vianello has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Gabriella Watkins, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs.

Whiting always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .690. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as River Forest only posted an OBP of .375.

The win keeps Whiting at an undefeated 4-0. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team's won by an average of 14.8 runs thus far. As for River Forest, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Whiting will take on Highland at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for River Forest, they will square off against Argos at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
