Depew is 7-1 against Lake Shore since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Wildcats will host the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. Depew is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Depew is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Fredonia on Monday as they made off with a 16-5 win. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won three matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Lucas Spruch made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Spruch was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jeff Nawojski, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jacob Scibetta, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Depew was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Lake Shore was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 16-6 to Iroquois.
Shane Lagattuta made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Cohen Ludwig was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Depew now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Lake Shore, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.
Lake Shore's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Depew hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .320. It's a different story for Lake Shore, though, as they've only averaged .233. Will they be able to contain Depew's hitters?
Everything went Depew's way against Lake Shore when the teams last played back in May of 2023, as Depew made off with a 6-0 victory. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
