Ukiah dropped their record down to 12-8-1 on Thursday, which also ended the team's seven-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Piner Prospectors by a score of 9-8. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Adyson Baarsch and Makenzie Roberts stepped up to the plate in a big way. Baarsch went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run, while Roberts went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Baarsch has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaloni Brown, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
As for Piner, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 14-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.
On Piner's side, Cambria Weerts was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Weerts was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nya Parra, who went 3-for-5 with two runs and one double. Another player making a difference was Elliana Tabares, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Ukiah has already played their next game, a 6-1 victory against Montgomery on the 13th. As for Piner, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 5-4 win against Healdsburg on the 13th.
