Baseball Game Preview: KIPP King Lions vs. Oakland Wildcats

KIPP King is on a 12-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Oakland is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Lions will welcome the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

KIPP King is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Impact Academy of Arts & Technology with a sharp 20-5 victory on Friday.

KIPP King let Carlos Ledezma and Derek Chan run wild. Ledezma went a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Chan got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and four runs. Those four runs gave Chan a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Danny Wu, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

KIPP King always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .781. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Oakland never let their opponents score on Monday. They blew past Fremont 21-0.

RJ Jacobson was incredible, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with five runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Oakland's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-6 when he doesn't). Noah Newton was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

KIPP King's win bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Oakland, their victory bumped their record up to 9-6.

Everything went KIPP King's way against Oakland in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, as KIPP King made off with a 10-0 win. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
