Basketball Recap: Kyson Mcleod's Big Game Can't Quite Lead South Aiken over Westwood

South Aiken was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a 68-51 bruising from the Westwood Redhawks. While losing is never fun, the Thoroughbreds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 160th, while the Redhawks are ranked fifth).

South Aiken's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kyson McLeod, who posted nine points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelton Walker, who earned eight points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, South Aiken smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.

South Aiken's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Westwood, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 12-0.

South Aiken will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Gilbert at 7:30 p.m. on January 7th. South Aiken is facing Gilbert at the right time seeing as Gilbert is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Westwood, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Blythewood at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Blythewood's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six games.
