Baseball Game Preview: South-Doyle Cherokees vs. Sequoyah Chiefs

The South-Doyle Cherokees will face off against the Sequoyah Chiefs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Heritage hit South-Doyle with a five-run second inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cherokees came up short against the Mountaineers, falling 12-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Cherokees have suffered since April 3rd.

Hunter Tipton made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two runs. He has become a key player for South-Doyle: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 9-15-1 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Sequoyah was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 15-3 to Lenoir City.

Sequoyah saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eli Byrum, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Sequoyah's loss dropped their record down to 8-18. As for South-Doyle, they dropped their record down to 12-16-1 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

South-Doyle took their victory against Sequoyah when the teams last played on April 1st by a conclusive 15-6 score. Will the Cherokees repeat their success, or do the Chiefs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
